You will want to Seymour of Stagedoor’s spooky musical

July 1, 2022

Following their creepy and kooky production of Addams Family last year, Stagedoor Academy are back for another spooky performance - this time involving a six-foot tall, man-eating plant! From Tuesday, July 5 to Saturday, July 9, the talented cast at the Goole theatre school will entertain audiences at Howden Shire Hall with their production of Little Shop of Horrors.

The horror comedy musical, based on the 1960 film of the same name, follows the story of the clumsy and naïve Seymour Krelborn and as his ditsy and somewhat quirky love-interest, Audrey. The show follows their ‘blooming’ romance, whilst trying to avoid being eaten by the other-worldly carnivorous plant, ‘Audrey 2’. After more than 20 years bringing youth musical theatre performances to the region, Stagedoor Academy are excited to tackle this show for the second time.

The show’s director, Janie Saunders, said: “The show is marvellous; funny, sad, spooky, and that’s just the first act! “We had so much fun performing this show a few years ago, and everyone loved it – we just had to do it again. We’ve spent months perfecting our lines, our harmonies, and our dance routines, and we’re ready to put on our best show yet. “The biggest challenge for us will be getting the plant puppets (including one which towers over 6ft tall) up the stairs and into the venue. Once they’re in place, we have an incredibly talented team who will then puppeteer and voice the so-called ‘mean green mother from outer space’ to bring her to life, and we think people will be shocked to see how realistic she is.”
